Featured Pet - Karley Baby

Featured Pet - Karley BabyKarley Baby has some issues with her back legs. They are bent and she is hunched and cannot sit down. We don’t think she is in pain, but she won’t be a runner. There is a surgery that could help her, but it costs $6,000 so we are currently trying to raise the money for this great expense! We would appreciate any suport and assistance towards helping her!
Otherwise she is healthy, but has a few quirky features: her lower jaw is small so her tongue often sticks out- which is quite endearing; she has an extra dew claw on her hind leg! She is a bit silly in appearance, but she has the sweetest heart- and that shines through the instant you meet her.

Karley Baby was surrendered by her former owners after not being named for nearly 3 years! Motley Zoo Animal Rescue was asked to find her a great forever family and that is exactly what we plan to do!

Karley Baby is a very happy girl (you can tell by her wagging tail) who just wants to be loved! She doesn’t let her “special needs” hold her back and she is one of the happiest, friendliest and easy-going dogs that you’ll meet! Instantly you will melt when you meet her- everyone does. She is looking for her special forever home that can give her the love that she deserves; she will return that love tenfold!

Featured Pet - Bruno

Buon giorno!

Bruno is uniquely from Europe, he even has an Italian passport! We are not sure why his family surrendered him- but we are glad that we now have the opportunity to find him the best home he needs- one who appreciates his sweet, loving self!

Notes from Bruno’s Foster Home: Meet Bruno- our unusual little man, with a face you can’t forget! He is one of our absolute favorite dogs and we hope you love him too.

Bruno was European born, but thankfully speaks English now! He is a sweet and loving boy, who was very much in need of some manners and instruction. He came to us as a “hopeless” case, when no one would really consider helping him…we took him out of the shelter and are pleased to say that this boy is loving, and sweet and has a lot to give! What a dramatically different life he leads now, outside the stress of the shelter.

Bruno has an unusual face, which you can’t help but smile at: his under bite is the most ridiculously cute one we have ever seen. Because of that, it can make it somewhat hard to read his cues, but he is a great communicator and not reactive. In getting to know him, it is pretty easy to understand what he wants: AFFECTION, and LOTS of it!

This boy is quick to warm, and always sticking his little face under your hand…then he works his way into your lap, and then suddenly you find him on his back, while you work hard to provide the belly rubs he craves! He cuddles and hugs, and will give kisses when he’s happy- he loves nothing more than to be around you, but he can entertain himself, too. Hes learning how to play fetch, and enjoys playtime with other dogs. You can find him bouncing around happily, engaging in some subtle play, or resting quietly. Were still working on teaching him manners and some social cues, but he is really friendly and outgoing to strangers and visitors.

Bruno is a great dog. He is crate trained, but would prefer to sleep with you, he says…He is pretty quiet, but loves his food and doesn’t mind telling you all about it. He is mostly house-trained, but were still working on it a little bit! All in all, he is a sweetheart, in need of a loving family to call his own!Motley Zoo Animal Rescue does not have a shelter location. All rescues are housed in private volunteer foster homes. Please email adopt@motleyzoo.org and request an adoption application and we will work toward approving you as an adopter with our rescue so that we can set a time for you to meet!

Poe

Update on Poe!

Poe is doing so well- we have him on a simple food, and some organic supplements and he is thriving! in a little over a month he has regrown so much hair, especially on his face and legs. hos belly and neck still remain a tad bald, but he will get there- at this rate we think by May he should be a normal looking pooch again!

Either way, there are no qualms about what a GREAT dog Poe truly is. He is so special and worthy of a great home…we look forward to meeting a family he can call his very own!

Special thanks to www.jaustinphotography.com for the great photos and www.idawgclothing.com for the awesome outfits!

Poe

This wonderful, 6 year old border collie lab mix, is a wonderful family dog- housebroken, great with toddlers, other dogs and cats…not a true flaw to speak of! He is however, nearly completely bald- due to allergies that went unattended and untreated.

Allergies to food and additives can affect many dogs- probably more than you know! Dogs with dry, flaky skin, or itchy ears and so on, can all be exeperincing food allergies. The solution to this problem is simple, human grade food- with no corn (or other grains), certain starches (for example sweet potato as opposed to regular), and even sans chicken. As a protein, chicken can be a big offender. Supplements like fish oil can greatly help- but switching food to lamb, salmon or other fish, and so on, can truly make a huge difference.

Poe has a very long road ahead of him- and his loving foster will be keeping us abreast with fantastic pics and a great blog. Read about Poe and his experiences here.

Poe is  one of our very special, adoptable dogs- so please contact us if you have an interest in his story, and potentially making him a great home!

Meet Petey- our 1 year old wonder dog!

Petey is one of the most amazing dogs you’ll ever meet- he’s 1 year old and faces a neurological issue, which makes him shaky on his feet. Technically called cerebellar hypoplasia, his nervous system was not allowed to develop properly. Because of this, he is wobbly and shaky, and tends to fall down quite a bit. His poor tail, tells the tale of many a spill, but his smiles says nothing of the sort. He doesn’t really seem to notice much and just picks himself right back up, to move on again. When he is walking though and in the groove, he really has no trouble- and you’d be surprised how quickly he can actually run too! Basically, this guy doesn’t let anything stop him…so neither should you!

Petey will always be this way- but as he grows into his body more, he will stabilize a bit, like in 3-5 years. We have him taking some swim therapy which he loves and has picked up at a miraculous rate- now able to swim alone even without a life jacket! He enjoys the swimming exercise, as well as running around in the yard with his dog pals.

As a caretaker you are not required to do much for Petey, except that a home without many stairs is best- and one without cats. He LOVES to make new friends, feline and canine alike, but those wily kitties just don’t seem to take to him as he wishes they would- so it is better just to avoid it altogether ;) As for canine companions, he makes friends fast- but he isn’t the most socially skilled, just yet. He doesn’t seem to mind (or take much notice) when someone tells him to back off, so initially you will want to ensure that everyone is adjusting well…but in a few minutes once everyone has sniffed enough, he is running with the best of them up and down the yard. One thing is for sure, you never have to worry about Petey being a grumpy pooch! He has never even made notice, nor reacted poorly, to anything or anyone in his life. He just believes in living in the moment :)

Petey is one of the happiest and sweetest dogs out there- and what a stellar example of the pit breed he is! Inquire if you’d like to know more about Petey, and his wonderful story.

Petey is neutered, micro chipped, utd on all vaccines, and is housebroken and crate trained!

Special thanks to www.doggone-day-spaw.net for the fun times in the pool and  www.jaustinphotography.com  for the great photos of our hansom fellow!

This sleek and gentle beauty is a mix of lab, terrier, and maybe hound. About 4 years old, and ONLY 35 POUNDS, Selina is gentle and mellow, athough can grow playful once she is comfy.

Selina came to us from Taiwan, where she was repeatedly picked on by the other dogs in the shelter, and it appears she may also have been treated badly by some of the handlers as well. In general, she is not fearful, but has a strong flight mode when something upsets her. It is not the norm to see any kind of fear reaction, but basically the slower you can go, and the quieter her surroundings, the better she will adjust.

A Taiwan rescue worked hard to get Selina out of those conditions and over to us, where they knew we could find her the loving and secure home that she deserves. At that time she was fostered with a baby, and did great- and even pulled the stroller sometimes!

Selina enjoys being a bit lazy and loves basking in the sun or snoozing on the sofa, but once comfy, she also finds joy in playing with other dogs and people. She is affectionate, follows like a shadow, and would make someone an excellent companion dog.

Selina would really perfer a quiet and relatively calm household. Although she does like kids, we are looking for a home with no young children, so she can simply rest quietly. Due to her past, Selina understandably shuts down emotionally if handled with a firm hand. This girl is well behaved and doesn’t need a firm hand. She just needs someone who can commit to using only positive reinforcement training methods. There is not much you need to ask of her actually, but firm methods only further perpetuate her fear and insercuity.

All this said, Selina is a total lover. Never one to turn down a pet, she allows anyone to come over to show her love, even little babies. She bonds quickly to the calmest soul in the home and will follow her person around. And while she is often a lazy muffin, she does enjoy walks and romps with her people and dog friends.

Meet Cherry, our 6-year old chihuahua!

Cherry is one of the most lovable, affectionate, people-oriented dogs we know. Plus, she is not a nervous dog— just an active one sometimes. This little gal has soooooo much LIFE in her. She feels everything on a grand scale. Her enthusiasm for walks, attention, food is contagious, though she’s never obnoxious. She follows you around, so eager to be a part of your life. She is definitely one happy girl!

She is as sweet as pie and and cute as can be! She has big loving eyes and can be both calm & quiet, and full of fun! She loves to play and cuddle:). She has definitely been a mother before, and enjoys playing mom to our tiny, shy rescues (especially the younger male dogs!).She is quiet, walks well on a leash and crate trained. She does still have to work a bit on house-training. She can hold it in her crate, but sometimes gets excited outside of it and forgets to pay attention to her potty manners. But she is learning every day.

Cherry is a darling girl in need of a loving permanent home! Won’t you consider her for your very own- she won’t let you down! Adoption Donation: $275

Teddy (also called Bradley), was recently adopted!

We are so glad for this sweet boy- but there are many other dogs like him, that need extra help- expesnive help…and we cannot do it without you!

____________________________________________

Meet Teddy, our 3 year old sweet shih tzu. Poor Teddy has had a tough life, but he’s happy as can be in spite of it all!

Teddy was born nearly deaf, but he can hear some subtle sounds and cues. During the early stages, he learned how to get around just fine. More recently, he wandered away from his home- and returned with one eye falling out! His owners at that time, felt his quality of life would be compromised- we thought differently! The vet knew we’d take him under our wings and find him the loving home he will need and want, to spend the rest of his days.

We took over his care, and removed the damaged eye. His other eye, sadly, is not perfect either- it is quite cloudy and he is nearly blind in it as well. He can however see subtle shadows and movements- so this is really wonderful for him!

Already he has started blossoming- and his foster mom reports that even only 2 short days after his surgery, he is already playing with toys!? This is an amazing accomplishment. He has a long road ahead of him though- to re-adjust to life with a weak eye, and to learn his new people and surroundings. He is however one of the biggest sweeties you’d ever meet- as cuddly as a teddy bear…hence his name! He is a wonderful dog and will make anyone a wonderful companion! He is quick to learn and doesn’t let his situation slow him down at all. He was reportedly house-trained and crate-trained by his former owners- although we will learn more about this, as we get to know him better too.

If you are interested in sponsoring Teddy to help with vet care, please click on the donate button on the left or sponsor link at www.motleyzoo.petfinder.org .

If you are interested in adopting Teddy, though he needs a little time to recover before becoming available; he must return to the vet in 2 weeks to have his stitches removed from his eye- and he will be neutered at that time. He will be ready to go to a home shortly after if all goes as planned, so hopefully you have room in your heart for this miraculous little Teddy!

Thanks for all the inquiries, Chester has been adopted! See our petfinder page for latest animals, as we quite a few coming in this week!

Meet Chester, our wonderful purebred minpin!

This is one intelligent, sweet dog! He is quite observant, and quick to learn and promises to be a good, good boy! He might have a lot of energy, but he knows how to turn it up or down, depending on your needs.

Bouncy as a spring and sweet as can be, Chester is interested in everyone and everything around him! Independent, but a social butterfly, Chester is always on the lookout for new adventures and people with whom to have them! Playful, eager and a natural explorer, this red-coated 3-year-old is a true minpin!

Filled with all the best traits of a miniature pincher, Chester has keen smarts, playful personality and a sleek physique, as well as curiosity, confidence and a high energy level. No surprise, Chester loves to eat, too! When he gobbles up his food, sometimes he gets quite into it, but he hasn’t demonstrated outwardly aggressive behaviors with his foster family. In fact, his foster mom – a fellow minpin owner — thinks he is such a delight!

Though he has Houdini tendencies, Chester knows many commands already, and is a fast learner and eager to please. After a long hard day of playing, Chester loves to curl up and chill out, burrowing in a blanket or resting beside you.

Part of the proud breed known as the King of the Toy Dog Breeds, Chester comes with official pedigree papers and is house-trained and crate-trained. His adoption fee also includes all vaccines, a micrcochip, flea treatment and dewormer.

Adoption Donation: $375

This pup has been spay/neutered, microchipped, flea treated, dewormed, and is current on vaccines.
